Tidal Crossing Information
Please be aware of the low tide crossings along the Abel Tasman Coast Track.
For your safety, avoid crossing these points when the tide is not low, as it can be hazardous.
Tide Crossings Information:
Torrent Bay Estuary:
You can safely cross this estuary 2 hours before or after low tide, under normal conditions. Alternatively, there is an all-tide track around the estuary that provides access to Cleopatra’s Pool.
Awaroa Inlet:
Cross Awaroa Inlet within 1 hour and 30 minutes before or 2 hours after low tide. Please note that natural factors like tide heights, storm surges, and heavy rainfall can affect this timing. Only attempt the crossing during daylight hours when it is safe, and allow approximately 25 minutes for the crossing. There is no alternative track around the estuary.
Goat Bay:
At Goat Bay, a section of the beach access may be submerged during high tides. Please wait for the tide to recede before continuing your journey.
